The Government of the province of Neuquén is moving forward with a strategic project for tourist connectivity in northern Neuquén: the paving of a 6-kilometer section of Provincial Route 26 , from the town of Caviahue to the junction with Provincial Route 27 , which leads to Copahue , one of the most important thermal spas in the country. The public bidding process was finalized with the opening of envelopes held at the Provincial Highway Department headquarters in Zapala. Two companies submitted bids to carry out the work: UTE Highway Construction and Services SA – Arco SRL Omega MLP SA The project has a significant impact on the Pehuén region , improving year-round accessibility , optimizing road safety , and encouraging the arrival of national and international tourists to Caviahue and Copahue. This section, which has been unpaved until now, presents difficulties, especially in winter, so its construction represents a key improvement in terms of economic and social development. The project is part of the road infrastructure plan promoted by Governor Rolando Figueroa and is coordinated by the Provincial Highway Directorate , with technical support from the Provincial Liaison and Execution Unit for Externally Funded Projects (Upefe) . The project includes the construction of the base, sub-base, and asphalt pavement, as well as drainage and road safety works. During the event, provincial and local authorities highlighted the importance of working collaboratively between state agencies and the private sector. It was also emphasized that this initiative is part of a roadworks policy that seeks not only to strengthen tourism infrastructure but also to improve the quality of life of local residents by facilitating access to services and reducing isolation. This tender represents a key step toward the completion of a long-awaited project for the communities of Caviahue and Copahue, in a region with significant scenic value and international tourism potential. |
