Commissioner Dan Jorgensen tells WindEurope 2025 sector can be backbone of transition Offshore wind is the best way to ensure fast deployment of renewables and increase energy security in Europe, WindEurope 2025 has heard. European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen told delegates in Copenhagen today the sector can also lead to massive cost savings for the bloc. He said permitting timelines must be reduced and there must be better integration of renewables generation into energy markets. The Dane also said CfDs as well as PPAs are required to back the sector. “There is no one silver bullet but if we do all of these things at once…then you can make a real difference,” he said. Jorgensen said Europe’s energy prices are too high as they are two to three times more than China and the US. He meanwhile said energy security is now the most important topic for the bloc, above affordability, given global conflicts. However, he warned the pace of deployment is not enough for renewables and offshore wind to build out to support the 1.5 degree warming target. |
