Work Detail ContourGlobal inaugurated the Quillagua solar photovoltaic plant, which can supply solar energy to the grid at night, with over six hours of autonomy. It is part of the portfolio the company acquired from the Spanish company Grenergy in 2024. ContourGlobal, a company wholly owned by the US fund KKR and led by Italian Antonio Cammisecra, global CEO of the company, announces the launch of the Quillagua plant, located in the commune of María Elena, Antofagasta region (Chile). This milestone marks the final stage before commercial operations begin in the coming weeks and the start of servicing its long-term clean power purchase agreement (PPA). Quillagua is a 221 MWp solar photovoltaic plant with a 1.2 GWh battery storage system, capable of delivering 200 MW for 6.2 hours after sunset. According to ContourGlobal, it is the largest solar plant with a storage system in Latin America. The project is part of a larger development that includes another similar facility in the Tarapacá region. This is the Víctor Jara plant, with 231 MWp of solar photovoltaic energy and 1.3 GWh of battery storage, and will be ready in the second half of the year, several months ahead of the initial plan. Both projects, with a total capacity of 452 MWp of solar energy and 2.5 GWh of battery storage, were acquired from the Spanish company Grenergy at the end of 2024 by ContourGlobal , marking the companys entry into Chile from the United States-based KKR fund. Once fully operational, this portfolio will generate nearly 1,300 GWh per year.
