Work Detail This is based on the approval of a final resolution by the Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG). The new regulations are expected to add at least 1 GW to installed renewable capacity. The Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG) has announced the approval of the final resolution that will allow the implementation of energy communities for more than 500,000 families, allowing them to generate and sell their energy to the electricity grid. In a statement, it explains that CREG Resolution 101,072 of 2025 will allow members of energy communities to participate in collective generation mechanisms. This measure aims to enable at least 1 GW of additional installed capacity from Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (FNCER), as renewable energy is defined in the country without the addition of large hydroelectric dams. The report describes this measure as a milestone in the history of the countrys electricity market, as it incorporates a key regulatory innovation: the virtual aggregation of borders, which will allow the integration of users, even if they are geographically dispersed, as long as they are within the same marketing market and local distribution system. This, it is asserted, opens up new opportunities for the development of energy communities in the National Interconnected System (SIN) and Non-Interconnected Zones (ZNI). The Minister of Mines and Energy, Edwin Palma, said that with the implementation of Energy Communities in electrically disadvantaged neighborhoods and special zones in the Colombian Caribbean, users will benefit from reduced utility bills because these solar panels will be subsidized with funds from the National Government. Based on this model, I call on mayors and local authorities to advance the energy democratization process through Energy Communities.
