The international bidding process for the concession of the Integration International Bridge, which connects the cities of Santo Tomé (Argentina) and São Borja (Brazil), was declared void on Friday, April 4, due to a complete lack of bidders. The bidding process, scheduled for the afternoon in the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguaçu, had to be suspended after no formal proposals were submitted. This is the second failed attempt to award the viaduct concession. The first call for bids, initially scheduled for January 31, was halted by Brazils Federal Accounting Court (TCU), which found irregularities in the eligibility criteria and failure to comply with essential bidding procedures. After introducing the required modifications, the process was relaunched, but it also failed to attract bidders. The bidding document calls for an estimated investment of $99 million, with a 25-year concession contract. The winning company would be responsible for both operational management and improvements to the road infrastructure and services of the Unified Border Center. The border crossing is considered strategic for regional trade, as it handles approximately 23% of trade between Argentina and Brazil, and approximately 40% of traffic between Brazil and Chile. |
