With an expected useful life of 35 years, it will be located in the Valparaíso region and will entail an investment of $290 million. The Greek company Metlen Energy & Metals, belonging to the multinational group Mytilineos Holdings, has entered the Los Boldos project into the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA). This project consists of a photovoltaic park with an installed capacity of 300 MW, with a maximum power to be injected into the distribution grid of 240.8 MW, and a BESS storage system with an installed storage capacity of 1,236 MWh and an injection power into the National Electric System (SEN) of 252 MW for 5 hours. The environmental impact statement submitted to the SEIA specifies that the project will be located in the commune of La Ligua, Petorca province, in the Valparaíso region. Also, while the solar park will occupy an area of ??almost 260 hectares, the BESS storage system sector will cover 3.3 hectares. The document specifies that to inject power generation into the SEN, a 220 kV, single-circuit connection line of approximately 23.3 km length will be required between the Los Boldos booster substation (33/220 kV) and the Nueva La Ligua 220 kV substation where the connection point will be located. An investment of 290 million dollars is estimated. The estimated date for the start of operations is June 2027, with an expected useful life of 35 years. Last March, Metlen announced the signing of three EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts for solar and storage power plants in Chile, which include the implementation of a total of 190.5 MWp of solar power capacity and more than 2,500 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity. All of these projects are scheduled for delivery no later than the first quarter of 2026. Metlen is also developing the Mesembria project, a 1,607 MWh battery storage system scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2025. In December of last year, Metlen inaugurated two solar plants in Chile totaling 394 MW . These projects complete a business portfolio in Chile of 589.2 MW, joining the 109.2 MW Willka solar park, inaugurated in December 2023 , located in the Arica and Parinacota region, and the 86 MW Doña Antonia park, in operation since last August , in the Coquimbo region. |
