The National Government has ordered the immediate suspension of construction work on the new bridge connecting Santa Fe with Santo Tomé, due to alleged non-compliance with the agreement signed between the National Highway Administration and the Provincial Highway Administration of Santa Fe. According to an official communication from the Ministry of Economys Transportation Secretariat, the National Highway Administration (NHIA) confirmed that work was being carried out in the construction site without proper authorization. Consequently, it ordered the province of Santa Fe to cease the work, warning of possible legal action in the event of noncompliance. The agreement signed on November 22, 2024, established that the Province of Santa Fe would assume the execution and financing of the project in accordance with the Executive Project agreed upon with the National Highway Administration. However, the Province complains about the lack of appointment of provincial technical representatives, which prevents adequate coordination in the supervision, environmental assessment, and development of the project. The National Government has repeatedly requested key technical documentation, including engineering reports with applicable standards, a water and environmental contingency plan, and impact studies on existing structures, such as the Highway Bridge and the defenses of both cities. These requests were formalized in notes sent on October 25, 2024, March 12, 2025, and March 21, 2025, but to date, they have not received a satisfactory response from the province. The future of the project remains uncertain until the differences between the two jurisdictions are resolved and the required reports are submitted. The construction of this bridge is a project of great importance to the region, as it seeks to improve road connections and traffic safety between Santa Fe and Santo Tomé, so its suspension is causing concern in the community and among the sectors involved in its implementation. |
