Work Detail BJP MLA Vijendra Gupta on Tuesday announced a major green energy initiative, stating that the Delhi Assembly will be powered entirely by solar energy within the next 100 days. During a session in the Delhi Assembly, Gupta, who also serves as the Speaker, shared that solar panels will be installed to meet the building’s electricity needs. Any surplus power generated from the panels will be routed back into the electricity grid, helping to contribute to overall energy sustainability. This announcement comes on the heels of Delhi’s 2025-26 budget, which was presented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on March 25. As part of the budget, she revealed that the Delhi government is actively working to sign an agreement with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to implement the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ in the capital. The scheme aims to provide financial subsidies of up to ?78,000 to residential consumers who opt for rooftop solar panel installations. In addition, the Delhi government is proposing a complementary scheme titled ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme – State Top Up.’ With a budget allocation of ?50 crore, this initiative is designed to supplement the central scheme and extend the benefits further. The government targets equipping 2.3 lakh residential rooftops with solar systems over the next three years, marking a significant step toward clean and sustainable energy in Delhi.
