Work Detail Alstom has been selected to supply rail traffic control and management systems for the modernisation of the Poznan freight bypass in Poland. The contract was signed between Alstom and Krakowskie Zaklady Automatyki S.A., as part of a broader effort to enhance the railway infrastructure in the region. Under the agreement, Alstom will deliver and upgrade railway traffic control devices at key locations, including stations and the Poznan Franowo Local Control Centre. Additionally, the company will oversee the reconstruction of control devices at the Poznan IV Local Control Centre and modernise line infrastructure, including line block devices and rail-road crossing systems. The works form part of extensive investment projects on railway lines no. 395 and 352. The upgrades include the modernisation of approximately 70 km of track, the establishment of new railway stations in Poznan districts, and the reconstruction of tracks and traction networks. These improvements aim to increase capacity and efficiency on one of Poland’s most critical freight transport routes. A key infrastructure project for Polish railways “The modernisation of the Poznan freight bypass is another infrastructural project of significant importance for the Polish railways. As one of the largest manufacturers of railway control systems and devices in Europe, we have unique competences and many years of experience gained on the domestic and international market. We are pleased that, in such a complex investment project as the modernisation of the Poznan freight bypass, our partners see the key role of technologies and solutions which are constantly developed by our team with modern and sustainable mobility in mind,” said Adam Juretko, Managing Director of Alstom’s Katowice site in Poland. Pawel Mentel, President of Krakowskie Zaklady Automatyki S.A., added: “The modernisation of the Poznan Freight Bypass is a project of great importance for the development of the entire Wielkopolska region, and in particular Poznan and its surroundings, which will bring many benefits not only to the residents but also to the entire transport system in this region. I am very glad that we will be able to carry out this task together and that thanks to the use of Alstom devices, rail traffic will be safer and more efficient.” One of the major outcomes of this investment will be the modernisation of workstations used by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe staff. The implementation of advanced computerised control systems will enable remote and automated rail traffic management, self-diagnostics, damage registration, and an overall improvement in the operation of railway control devices. These automated and secure computer systems will significantly enhance railway safety in the Poznan metropolitan area. Alstom’s track record in Poland Alstom has extensive experience in modernising Poland’s rail infrastructure. The company was the first to implement the ERTMS Level 2 system in the country and has since developed similar systems on ten PKP PLK railway lines. Additionally, Alstom has played a pivotal role in: Constructing a control centre for the Warsaw Metro. Developing over 30 centralised rail traffic control (CTC) systems. Equipping over 220 stations with computerised interlocking systems. Upgrading more than 1,700 level crossing signalling systems. The modernisation of the Poznan freight bypass represents another milestone in Alstom’s commitment to enhancing Poland’s railway network, delivering smarter, safer, and more efficient rail solutions.
