Work Detail |
ÖBB-Infrastruktur awarded a consortium of Rhomberg Sersa Rail and Porr a EUR 76 million contract to supply slab track for Semmering Base Tunnel. The contract includes equipping the tunnel with the slab track, the production and installation of the concrete track slabs on which the tracks will be mounted. The construction on the tunnel is scheduled to begin in April 2027, preceded by the completion of the tunnel inner shell and a large portion of the technical tunneling equipment for Semmering Base Tunnel. The railway technology specialists will commence planning and production of the track supporting slabs in June 2025. For this project, Rhomberg Sersa Rail will take over commercial management, while Porr will lead the technical aspects. The consortium partners had already been awarded the contract for the technical equipment of the Semmering Base Tunnel in summer 2024, which will be installed starting in summer 2025. Rhomberg Sersa Rail and Porr are already involved in the joint venture BTA Semmering Basistunnel 4.1, responsible for the railway technology of the 27.3-km-long twin-tube tunnel under a EUR 176 million contract. Simultaneously, the joint venture partners are implementing the railway technology equipment for this crucial infrastructure project, installing telecommunications, high-voltage systems, distribution systems, lighting, emergency escape signage, and mechanical systems for air conditioning, ventilation, and fire suppression. After the final breakthrough in November 2024, when all excavations have been completed, work is currently underway on the concrete inner shell, in addition to the preparatory work for the technical tunnelling equipment. Almost 50 km of this has already been constructed, out of a total of almost 55 km in the two tunnel tubes combined. The technical tunnelling equipment and the slab track will then be installed in the finished inner shell, so that trains can travel through the Semmering Base Tunnel in 2030. In addition, the two companies have also provided and installed comprehensive equipment of the Koralm Tunnel. |
