Work Detail County administrative board recommends Fyrskeppet offshore wind farm for approval Skyborn Renewables has cleared a crucial hurdle in its plans to develop an offshore wind farm in Sweden. The County Administrative Board of Uppsala has recommended that the Swedish government approves the 2.8GW Fyrskeppet offshore wind project. Skyborn Renewables is planning to install up to 187 wind turbines with a maximum total height of 350 metres. The site will have an annual production capacity of up to 11TWh, which amounts to 8% of Sweden’s electricity consumption. Chief executive of Skyborn Sweden Niclas Broman said: “This is very good news for both us and the region, which is in great need of new fossil-free electricity when electricity use is expected to increase between 30 and 40% by 2045. “Now we hope for a fast-paced process with the government and look forward to a permit in the near future.” The project area is approximately 488 square kilometres in size and is located approximately 50km north of Örskär in Uppsala County. The area is partly listed as a national interest for wind farms and is also designated in the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Managements maritime plans as an energy extraction area.
