PNN 94327
Work Detail The Queensland government has announced it will build a new AU$ 3.8 billion (US$ 2.4 billion) 63,000-seat venue at Brisbane’s Victoria Park as part of plans for a main stadium and other venues for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The historic Gabba stadium will be demolished and replaced with residential developments, while a new stadium at Victoria Park will host the Olympics, AFL, and cricket. Brisbane Stadium will be located in Victoria Park, and a new national aquatic center will be built at the current Centenary Pool site in Spring Hill. The two major venues will be situated just a few hundred meters apart. The new aquatic center will include two stadiums with large indoor pools for elite training and competition, accommodating over 25,000 spectators during the Olympics and 8,000 afterward. The Brisbane Showgrounds will house the athletes village, and the 140-year-old main arena will be upgraded to hold 20,000 people. Plans for a Hamilton facility have been scrapped. The Queensland Tennis Centre will see a 3,000-seat show court and 12 new match courts, while new indoor sports centers and a whitewater rafting venue will be developed. The Brisbane Olympics delivery plan has changed for the third time, scrapping Labor’s proposal to hold athletics at a temporary stadium at QSAC. The government has not disclosed venue-specific costs but maintains the Games will stay within the AU$ 7.1 billion (US$ 4.4 billion) budget. The AU$ 2.3 billion (US$ 1.4 billion) Brisbane Arena will be privately funded, while the main stadium’s US$ 2.4 billion estimate excludes infrastructure costs. An investment case must be completed within months, with planning approvals finalized by Q3 2026.
