Orascom Construction PLC and Técnicas Reunidas have been awarded a major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the 3 GW Qurayyah IPP Expansion Project in Saudi Arabia. The contract, valued at over $2.6 billion, was signed with Hajr Two Electricity Company, a consortium comprising ACWA Power, Saudi Electricity Company, and Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co. Ltd. The project, located in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, will be a combined cycle gas-fired power plant and is designed with carbon capture readiness. Additionally, it will include a 380 kV electrical substation, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. Orascom Construction and Técnicas Reunidas have already received the Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) for the project, further solidifying their role as key players in the region’s power sector. Expanding Regional Presence Orascom Construction has an extensive track record in the Middle East and Africa, with completed and ongoing power projects exceeding 30 GW in total capacity. The company has previously delivered two 4.8 GW combined cycle gas-fired power plants in Egypt, showcasing its expertise in large-scale energy infrastructure. CEO Osama Bishai emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “We continue to execute our geographic diversification strategy, particularly in key sectors such as power and water. This project reflects the high-value opportunities we pursue, allowing us to leverage our expertise to deliver impactful projects. Following our recent success in Egypt’s power sector, we are eager to make a similar contribution in Saudi Arabia.
