Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has secured an additional order worth over ?405 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to manufacture and supply seven metro trains (42 cars) for Phase 2 (Reach 6) of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project. With this latest contract, the total number of trainsets under BEML’s agreement with BMRCL has increased from 53 (318 cars) to 60 (360 cars). “BEML is proud to strengthen its partnership with BMRCL by delivering state-of-the-art metro trainsets designed to enhance Bangalore’s urban mobility. This additional order reaffirms our commitment to providing world-class, indigenously manufactured metro solutions that align with the Government of India’s AatmaNirbhar Bharat vision,” said Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director, BEML Limited. As the largest rolling stock supplier to BMRCL, BEML has played a crucial role in Bangalore’s metro expansion. The new trainsets will feature advanced technology, including an IP-based Passenger Announcement and Passenger Information System (PA/PIS), a Passenger Saloon Surveillance System (PSSS) for real-time station updates and security, an LCD-based Dynamic Route Map, and electrically driven automatic doors synchronized with Platform Screen Doors for enhanced safety and passenger convenience. This additional order is an extension of Contract 5RS-DM, initially awarded to BEML in August 2023 amid intense global competition. The original contract, valued at approximately ?3,177 crore, includes the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of trainsets, along with maintenance services for up to 15 years. The project is a key component of Bangalore Metro’s expansion under Phases 2, 2A, and 2B, further solidifying BEML’s leadership in India’s metro manufacturing sector. |
