Company will invest up to €600m in onshore wind farms Renewable energy company Vindr has secured five new wind park development areas in Latvia. The Nordic developer plans to invest up to €600m in the wind farms, with the total capacity exceeding 600MW. The five development areas are Cesis, Jekabpils, Livani, Saldus, and Valmiera. Vindr’s newly-appointed country manager for Latvia Baiba Zauere said: “We are pleased to have secured the rights to develop wind parks in multiple new locations – this is a significant step not only for our company but also for Latvia’s energy development. “Latvia is well-suited for wind energy production, and our country needs to enhance its energy security and independence. It’s a great match.” In addition to the wind projects, Vindr is also developing a solar park near Livani, investing €2m in the project. Before construction of the wind farms begins, the company will conduct environmental impact and technical studies. There will also be an extensive approval process involving national and local government institutions. Vindr says it will establish a dialogue with local communities around the wind farm development sites. |
