In the testing phase, the facility will be used to power the Yura cement company, located in the department of Arequipa. The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (Minem) has issued Ministerial Resolution No. 093-2025-MINEM/DM granting the cement company Yura the definitive concession to generate electricity with the “Yura Photovoltaic Solar Plant” project, with a total peak power of 31.07 MWp, located in the district of Yura, province and department of Arequipa. The plant represented an investment of $25 million and occupies an area of ??43 hectares. With a nominal power of 26.95 MW, it is the countrys largest solar plant dedicated to industrial self-consumption. Its goal is to supply clean energy to the Yura cement plant, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels such as petcoke and the conventional electricity grid. The plant has a 1.3 km, 30 kV transmission line connecting it to the Yura 0 substation, as well as transformer stations and an electrical room for the management and distribution of the generated energy. It is expected to be fully operational by mid-2025, with an estimated useful life of 30 years. |
