The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) announced that the concession contract for the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway, also known as the Tren Macho, will be signed in the first week of April. In August of last year, the Consorcio Concesionaria Ferroviaria del Centro was awarded the Tren Macho modernization project, which will require an investment of US$565 million for its construction, operation, and maintenance, benefiting 1.2 million residents of Junín and Huancavelica. The 128.7 km Huancayo - Huancavelica Railroad comprises 7 stations, 20 stops, 15 bridges, and 38 tunnels. The scope of work includes upgrading the railroad infrastructure with new rolling stock, a signaling and control system, a new repair and maintenance workshop and a drainage system. In addition, the slopes will be protected and stabilized and the railway superstructure will be renovated. The project will be implemented in two stages, Huancayo-Mariscal Cáceres and Mariscal Cáceres-Huancavelica. |
