Work Detail BOTSAT-1 was developed in collaboration with regional and international partners Botswana has successfully launched its first satellite designed to further the country’s sustainable development ambitions via data it will beam back from space. The successful launch was the culmination of a partnership between Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and Dragonfly Aerospace. The BOTSAT-1 successfully launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9—Transporter-13 ride-share mission on 15 March after a failed attempt earlier in the month. BOTSAT-1, owned and operated by Botswana, was developed in collaboration with regional and international partners. “This is an initiative which represents a national space engineering endeavour, spearheaded by the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). “The Government of Botswana recognises the importance of the space ecosystem and has been a steadfast supporter through the Ministry of Communication and Innovation, which has generously sponsored this project, and the Ministry of Higher Education, which has entrusted BIUST with its implementation,” the University says on its website.
