Work Detail |
The Community of Madrid is investing EUR 10 million to renovate technical rooms that will house equipment for the automation of Metro Line 6. The works, set to be completed by March 2027, will not disrupt passenger services. The project involves upgrading 60 technical spaces where communication systems, platform doors, and railway signalling equipment will be installed. The contract for the renovations will be put out to tender in the coming days. Civil engineering improvements, including structural upgrades, larger floors, and enhanced piping, will also be carried out. Additionally, new equipment will be installed, along with energy and air conditioning enhancements, ensuring compatibility with the Central Control Post and other centralised systems. This automation effort is expected to increase the transport capacity of the Circular line by 17% and reduce train intervals to just two minutes. Metro Line 6 is Madrid’s busiest, with over 116 million users in 2024 and an average of 400,000 daily journeys across its 23-kilometre route and 28 stations. A comprehensive renovation of the line will commence in June, divided into two phases. The first phase, from June to September, will focus on the southwest section between Moncloa and Méndez Álvaro. The second phase, starting in December, will cover the northeast section between Moncloa and Legazpi. To minimise disruption, the Community of Madrid will provide free transport alternatives during the affected periods. |
