The international bridge project that will connect the city of San Javier, in Misiones, with Porto Xavier, Brazil, has taken a key step with the opening of the bidding envelopes. In a process administered by Brazils National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DENIT), eight companies submitted economic and technical bids, all below the official budget, which expedites the selection of the winning bidder. The opening ceremony took place in Brasilia, with the presence of authorities from both countries. The participating firms come from various Brazilian states, including Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Norte, and Rio Grande do Sul. The competition among these companies guarantees a robust bidding process, with expectations of a prompt resolution. In addition to analyzing the bid amounts, DENIT will evaluate each companys technical and operational capacity before announcing the winner. The final selection is expected to be finalized next week, after which a period will open for any administrative appeals. The winning firm must then complete the formal contracting phase, which could take approximately three months, with construction likely to begin in late July or early August. The bridge over the Uruguay River will be approximately 1,200 meters long and is part of the Bioceanic Corridor, a key initiative to improve connectivity between southern Brazil, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina with the Pacific ports. Currently, the crossing between San Javier and Porto Xavier is carried out by a ferry with limited capacity and frequency, so this project represents a substantial improvement in regional transportation and logistics. Funded by the Brazilian federal government, the construction of this bridge will not only facilitate trade and tourism but also contribute to regional development, strengthening ties between the two countries. DENIT expressed its satisfaction with the competitive bidding process and assured that the process is progressing according to the stipulated deadlines. With this phase underway, the San Javier–Porto Xavier international bridge is getting closer to becoming a reality, following years of bilateral negotiations. Once the contract is awarded, the selected company will begin mobilization, soil surveys, and site preparation, marking the beginning of a strategic project for regional integration. |
