Work Detail The Production Development Corporation has selected three business consortia from Chile, Spain, and China to build production plants. Two will be located in the Biobío region and the other in the Metropolitan Region. The Chilean Production Development Corporation (Corfo) has announced the selection of three projects that will receive a total of $25.6 million in funding for the installation of three electrolyzer factories for the green hydrogen industry. Two of these will be located in the Biobío region, while the remaining one will be located in the Metropolitan Region. In a statement, it is explained that together, these initiatives—led by three business consortiums from Chile, Spain, and China—will total investments of more than $50 million, with an estimated direct and indirect job creation of more than 1,000. This selection is part of the call for proposals for the Manufacture and/or assembly of electrolyzers and their components in Chile, announced in May of last year and extended until the following August . Of the 10 companies that applied, these three were selected: Chinas Beijing Sinohy Energy, with its Hygreen BioBío H2v project, will be located in the industrial hub of the Biobío Region. It will be co-executed by the companies Constructora Manuel Enríquez Talcahuano and CONMETAL. It is expected to begin operations in mid-2026. The Chilean consortium Fastpack, with its project Hypack Chile: Electrolyzer Assembly Plant in Chile, planned for the Metropolitan Region, has Mining3 Chile, L&A Ingeniería y Proyectos Spa, Adolfo Ibáñez University, and GUOFUHEE (Brazil) as partners. It will be located in Santiago for the assembly of alkaline electrolyzers ranging from 10 kW to 50 MW, PEM electrolyzers ranging from 50 kW to 1 MW, as well as for the local manufacture of auxiliary systems. The Spanish consortium Joltech Solutions—a spinoff of the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research—will develop, together with the University of Concepción and Enertex Engineering and Project Development, the project Development, construction, and commissioning of the first 100 kW to 1 MW electrolyzer plant, also in Biobío. It will feature an automated local alkaline electrode manufacturing line using Sparkfuze technology and other auxiliary systems. Operations are expected to begin in mid-2026. According to José Miguel Benavente, Executive Vice President of Corfo, these projects have the unique characteristic of offering distinct technological proposals, which is very important in terms of the opportunities for productive development and linkages that each one can offer.
