The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a river control structures designed to mitigate flooding and ensure access in a remote barangay in Milagros town, Masbate Province. DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that the project was built in the heart of Barangay Jamorawon which has long been prone to flooding and used to be inaccessible during rainy and typhoon season. To address the recurring problem, the DPWH constructed a 12-meter-long and 7-meter-wide spillway structure that also serves as a secured crossing path, complete with concrete slope protection on both sides and reinforced concrete pipe culvert for drainage. DPWH also built a 233.72-meter revetment on both sides of the river, including a 15-meter-long, 2-way concrete pavement on the spillway approaches for added stability and structural integrity. “With the spillway bridge and revetment structures completed, residents of Barangay Jamorawon are now able to safely cross the river to access its more remote communities,” said Dierctor Eduarte. The project in Barangay Jamorawon was implemented and completed by the DPWH Masbate 2nd District Engineering Office under the leadership of District Engineer Denis C. Cagomoc. |
