Key sections of Vietnam’s North-South Expressway are nearly complete. Vietnam’s North-South Expressway will form a key transport link for the country, with three further sections due for completion at the end of April 2025. These are the 83km stretch between Van Phong and Nha Trang as well as the sections between Bai Vot and Ham Nghi measuring 35km as well as Ham Nghi and Vung Ang measuring 54km. The stretch between Van Phong and Nha Trang in Vietnam’s central region features 34 bridges and 85 underpasses. Some paving works have yet to be completed for these three stretches while signage and guard rails are being installed at the moment. These three stretches will feature two lanes in either direction and maximum speed limits of 90km/h. Meanwhile, work is underway in the Mekong Delta on the $1.1 billion Can Tho to Ca Mau Expressway. There are 117 bridges along the route, with more than half having had decks installed already. The six largest bridges on the route are now undergoing technical tests. In addition, work is being carried out to the 3,000km Eastern Expressway, which is due for completion during 2025. There is also a new proposal for a 46km highway that would link the city of Hanoi with Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh Province. The project would cost in excess of $1 billion and would be handled under the PPP model, should it get the go ahead. And the Vietnamese Government is keen to encourage progress on the Ring Road No3 construction project in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) for the elevated bridge section. Work on the Tan Van interchange commenced in April 2024 and is due for completion by September 2026. Meanwhile, a 21km elevated section will open to traffic in late 2025. The remaining 55km will open in the second quarter of 2026. |
