Work Detail KGAL ESPF 4 has successfully connected the 47 MWp ‘San Fernando’ solar park to the power grid in Cádiz, southern Spain. This region enjoys over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, making it the sunniest in the country and an ideal location for solar energy production. What sets this project apart is that it’s a pure greenfield development — KGAL and its partner Premier Group took the initiative from the very beginning. Together with their service provider ELMYA, they managed every stage of the process, from securing the land and conducting feasibility studies to obtaining environmental permits, submitting building applications, overseeing construction, and completing the project. Overcoming various planning and construction challenges, the solar park is now fully operational and supplying electricity to the grid at favorable market prices. Fabio Garcia, Transaction Manager at KGAL, stated, “With projects of this size, you always face difficult tasks at some point. In the case of ‘San Fernando’, for example, we had to lay a connecting cable several kilometers long underground to the transformer station and tunnel under a train line and a motorway, among other things.” With its 47 MWp capacity, the San Fernando solar park produces enough green electricity to power around 35,000 people. The project will soon be complemented by a wind farm currently under development, allowing both parks to share infrastructure and create operational efficiencies. Additionally, KGAL and ELMYA are constructing two more solar parks in Córdoba, each with a capacity of 45 MWp, further expanding their renewable energy footprint in Spain.
