Work Detail The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has completed the installation of a solar power system at the Khalifa City water distribution station, marking a significant milestone in Bahrain’s transition to renewable energy. The newly installed system has a generation capacity of up to 1,400 kilowatts of clean electricity, with the ability to export surplus power to the national grid. The project scope included the installation of 2,032 solar panels on the rooftops of the station’s underground reservoirs, integrating a self-cleaning mechanism and advanced monitoring and control systems. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA, highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to equip various EWA facilities with solar energy systems. The Khalifa City station is now the eleventh EWA site to adopt renewable energy, reinforcing the authority’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. The project aligns with Bahrain’s national strategy to enhance clean energy production, reduce carbon emissions, and support the Kingdom’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also contributes to the country’s Economic Vision 2030 and its commitment to increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix. EWA’s latest initiative underscores its role in driving Bahrain’s transition towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
