Work Detail | Instead of simply sending over-the-air Android 6.0 updates to their late 2015-released Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL phones running 5.1 out the box, MetroPCS and T-Mobile appear to have decided to pick up brand new Fierce 4 models. Available at the nation’s leading “Un-carrier” starting “this fall”, and up for grabs already at participating stores of T-Mo’s prepaid daughter operator, the Alcatel Fierce 4 however doesn’t feel very new. In fact, besides pre-loaded Marshmallow goodies, which should still make their way OTA to the Fierce XL ASAP, the fourth-gen phablet merely bumps its predecessor’s selfie camera up from 2 to 5 megapixels, also marginally revising last year’s design, with a “Gray Rays finish”, “silver metallic trim accent”, and “slightly curved edge back.” But Metro promises to sell the Android M-based 5.5-incher for as little as $69 with “eligible phone activation or upgrade” in physical retail locations (the online price is $119 at the moment), so you might well be inclined to ignore the lack of novelty here. After all, the Alcatel Fierce 4 (no more OneTouch branding) does come with HD screen resolution, an 8MP autofocus rear-facing cam further sporting flash and HDR, quad-core processing power, 2GB RAM, and 16GB expandable storage. |
