The municipality of General Pueyrredon announced the resumption of the remodeling work of the Gandhi Corridor , in the northern area of ??Mar del Plata , thanks to a financing commitment from the government of the Province of Buenos Aires . The work, which had been paralyzed in December 2023 with a progress of 20% , will have an investment of $707,002,197.98 , through Public Tender 2/2025 , whose opening of envelopes will take place on March 26 . Details of the First Stage of the Project The initial intervention includes the paving of Gandhi Street between La Tapera and Beltrán streams , with a completion period of 100 calendar days . The planned work is to lay 930 m² of asphalt , 7.5 meters wide and 12 cm thick , distributed across seven blocks of varying lengths, respecting the existing speed bumps and curbs. Differences with the Original Project The initial plan, funded by the national government through the Argentina Hace Plan , contemplated a larger investment, including paving 18 blocks , building sidewalks, installing streetlights, a plaza , and speed bumps on cross streets to improve stormwater drainage. However, this project was left unfinished after the suspension of national funding. Background and Neighborhood Complaints The project was awarded in June 2023 to Pasalto Materiales , with a budget of $494 million . By the time it was halted in December 2023 , 19.50% of the work had been completed , primarily the construction of the curb and gutter between La Tapera and Beltrán streams . The lack of national funds led to complaints from residents of Las Dalias and Alto Camet , who organized demonstrations due to the deterioration of the road layout. Commitment of the Province and Next Steps With the support of the Buenos Aires government, the Municipality will move forward with the construction and formalize a financing agreement with the Province, the details and timeframe of which will be determined based on the progress of the project. The continuation of this project will improve connectivity and road conditions in the northern part of Mar del Plata, benefiting hundreds of residents. |
