The Panamanian government, through the National Energy Secretariat, has issued a resolution recommending long-term renewable energy procurement to ensure better prices in the electricity market. Bid documents must be submitted by October 31. The National Energy Secretariat of Panama has issued Resolution No. MIPRE-2025-0009558 recommending that the Electric Transmission Company (ETESA) prepare and submit to the National Authority for Public Services (ASEP) the necessary documents to carry out a long-term public tender for the purpose of contracting energy, in order to cover the contracting obligations of electric power distribution companies. The measure instructs ETESA to submit public bidding documents before October 31 of this year. According to the resolution, the energy requirement period is 180 months, from January 2029 to December 2043. A power equivalent to 120 MW is also planned for each month of the aforementioned period, with maximum prices set at which energy can be offered at $97.50/MWh. |
