Airbus Defence and Space has opened a new logistics facility in Lloyd Industriepark, Bremen, Germany. The new facility, which was developed in cooperation with Kühne + Nagel’s contract logistics division, will provide services to the military and civil fields. Airbus will initially use the new materials management centre for A400M production, as well as for space applications in the future. The new warehouse features several storage areas ranging from small parts, pallet and cantilever rack storage facilities to large components in floor/block storage areas. With optimised storage and transportation routes, the new facility will be operated by around 100 warehouse employees. According to Airbus, the new MMC replaces three old warehouses and enable the firm to meet increasingly complex requirements for punctual and continual delivery to production lines. Airbus Defence and Space procurement and supply chain head Martin Weichhardt said: The MMC has a high-quality logistical and storage area of around 10,000 square metres, which caters for the special, aviation-specific requirements of the premises, the warehouse layout, storage area distribution and storage equipment. An investment volume of around 50 million euros has been earmarked for project planning, development and operation until 2024. With around 38,000 employees, Airbus Defence and Space provides space, military aircraft and related systems and services. The company generated about €13bn revenues in the last fiscal year. |
