Work Detail | Mercedes-Benz has revealed prices and specifications for its four-pronged SLC roadster range. Mercedes has done away with its SLK nameplate, which the vehicle has worn since its inception in 1996, and has brought the two-seater into its new naming structure fold. Overall the new SLC remains similar to the SLK it replaces, the basic shape with its signature long bonnet remains the same but it gains new wheels, bumpers, headlights and grille to freshen up the roadster's appeal. The interior too has received a freshen-up rather than an overhaul compared to the previous SLK, which shows, despite the name change, it is more of an update than an all-new model. The SLC range kicks off with the entry-level SLC180 which starts from $70,900 before on-road costs. It is kitted out with 18-inch wheels, Garmin navigation, leather upholstery, heated front seats, reversing camera, digital radio and is compatible with Apple CarPlay. It is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that is good for 115kW and 250Nm and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Next model up is the SLC200 which utilises a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 135kW and 300Nm. It gains selectable driving modes and electric seats over the SLC180 and is priced from $83,855. The SLC300 is priced from $99,855, which gets you additional 18-inch AMG wheels, AMG body styling, lowered sports suspension, keyless ignition and Mercedes-Benz's Airscarf neck-level heating. Powered by an uprated version of the SLC200's 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, it produces 180kW and 370Nm. The range tops out at the new AMG SLC43, which is priced from $134,615. Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine which is good for 270kW and 520Nm and is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds. It gains AMG sports suspension, AMG brakes, panoramic roof, sports seats in Nappa leather, LED lights, Comand navigation, Hardon/Kardon stereo and ambient interior lighting. It can be optioned with the AM G handling package which includes a limited-slip rear differential. Standard safety equipment across the range includes six-airbags, driver attention warnings, active bonnet, emergency braking and a reversing camera, while the SLC300 gets adaptive cruise control.
