The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is advancing the completion of the widening and improvement of Saturnino R. Silva Road in the municipality of Carmen, Davao del Norte, poised to enhance road safety while facilitating smoother and faster daily travel for residents and motorists. DPWH Regional Office XI Director Juby B. Cordon, in a report to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that the Saturnino R. Silva Road is undergoing upgrading of the two (2) existing lanes and construction of two (2) additional lanes, now 92.53 percent completed, focused on reinforcing the road’s capacity against flooding caused by the lower elevation of the existing road. “This access route is an essential road link going to the town corridors of Davao del Norte. However, due to its proximity to Sadpudon Creek, the area has become prone to frequent flooding, disrupting travel and causing damages to the communities adjacent to the road,” said Director Cordon. The upgrading of Saturnino R. Silva Road is part of the Build Better More program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., focused on strengthening local road networks that play crucial roles in supporting agriculture and economic development across regions,” said Director Cordon. Other features of the 570-meter road project include the construction of concrete sidewalks and bike lanes with curbs and gutters. It also covers the installation of line canals and concrete catch basins to ensure the resiliency of the road structure withstanding extreme weather conditions. The Davao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office is implementing the road improvement project, targeted for completion before the end of 2025, with a P40.05 million budget allocation under the 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program. |
