Within the framework of the Naval Industry Promotion Law, the Chubut government awarded the Comodoro Rivadavia shipyard concession for an initial 20-year period and an investment of over 10 billion pesos. The initiative seeks to diversify the production mix, strengthen port infrastructure, and generate employment in the region. Located within the port, the shipyard had been abandoned for decades. Its reactivation will make it a national benchmark in ship repair and maintenance. The project includes the restoration of the ship repair shop, the rehabilitation of the synchronous ship lift, and the renovation of the main hall, with the goal of improving the ports operational capacity and optimizing logistics for the fishing sector. The contract signing took place at the Senasa Southern Patagonia Regional Center, with provincial and municipal authorities, as well as representatives from the union and business sectors, in attendance. During the ceremony, the governor highlighted the strategic importance of the port of Comodoro Rivadavia, noting that its development will contribute to the export of provincial resources and the countrys economic growth. The president emphasized that the investment will boost direct and indirect job creation and consolidate Comodoro as a key logistics and port hub. He also highlighted that the shipyards reactivation responds to a long-standing demand from the fishing sector, as more than 90% of the Chubut fleet currently undergoes repair work in Mar del Plata. To improve the shipyards competitiveness, the implementation of tax and logistical incentives is planned, including tariff-free imports of naval sheet metal and dredging of the port. These measures will reduce costs and position the region as a strategic hub for the naval industry. The concession of the Comodoro Rivadavia shipyard marks a milestone in the recovery of key productive infrastructure, promoting sustainable development and job creation in the province. Its reopening will particularly benefit the fishing sector, allowing for faster and more affordable repairs for local vessels. |
