Work Detail |
The National Government ordered the cancellation of all construction contracts for the National Roads Department, citing a lack of funds to continue work on the countrys roads. The measure affects both construction and repair projects as well as essential maintenance services, including intersection lighting and roadside grass cutting. The head of the National Highway Administration, Marcelo Campoy, ordered the termination of current contracts, regardless of their progress. In a circular sent to the agencys management, he justified the decision by stating that given the current economic and financial situation, it is necessary to complete and close the works whose execution has become unfeasible for the reasons stated. The measure includes the cancellation of road maintenance agreements and other key road safety services. To mitigate potential legal conflicts, the provision recommends that cancellations be carried out through procedures for termination of work, limitation, and termination by mutual agreement, in accordance with National Roads Process No. 24. Campoy acknowledged that the decision responds to current budgetary restrictions, which have resulted in a significant reduction in the resources allocated to the agency. In this context, the need to adjust the National Highway Administrations activities to the financial limits projected for the current year was established. The contract cancellation is part of the adjustment plan designed by the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation, headed by Federico Sturzenegger. With this decision, the government seeks to reduce financial commitments, although the measure could impact road infrastructure and the safety of national highways. |
