Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has signed a ?2,463 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence to supply and service indigenous Ashwini Radars for the Indian Air Force, according to a regulatory filing on March 12, 2025. The state-of-the-art AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radars were developed jointly by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and BEL. Equipped with integrated IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) capabilities, these radars offer electronic scanning in azimuth and elevation, enabling 4D surveillance. Designed for deployment across diverse terrains, the mobile radar systems can automatically detect and track aerial threats, ranging from high-speed fighter jets to slow-moving targets. They are also equipped with advanced ECCM (Electronic Counter-Counter Measures) features to enhance operational effectiveness. With this latest order, BEL’s total contract value for the current financial year has risen to ?17,030 crore, further cementing its role in India’s defense manufacturing sector. |
