$21.85 billion will be spent on South African road upgrades.A healthy budget of $21.85 billion is being set for road development works in South Africa over the next three years. This budget has been put forward by South Africa’s Finance Ministry, with the focus on carrying out repair and maintenance works, improve existing highways and further develop public transport. The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) will benefit from a budget of $5.4 billion over the next three years as a key part of the road development budget. South Africa’s road network is in desperate need of investment in some parts of the country. Improvements are needed to highways leading to and from the major cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban and Port Elizabeth, which suffer high levels of congestion. |
