Work Detail Vietnam is working on a massive expansion of its expressway network.Vietnam’s Southern Region is to benefit from massive investment in expressway construction. At present the network is some 223km in total but by 2026 the network will extend to a total of 935km, with further construction planned. The work is being managed by the Ministry of Transport. Key projects underway at present include Ring Road 3 for Ho Chi Minh City, the expressways linking Ben Luc and Long Thanh, Bien Hoa with Vung Tau and An Huu with Cao Lanh. They also include the expressways linking Chau Doc with Can Tho and Soc Trang, Can Tho and Ca Mau, Cao Lanh with Lo Te and the Lo Te to Rach Soi. These routes total 712km in length. However, further new expressways are planned. These include routes linking Gia Nghia and Chon Thanh, Dau Giay with Tan Phu, Ho Chi Minh City with Moc Bai and My An with Cao Lanh and Ho Chi Minh City with Chon Thanh. Meanwhile, there are plans to improve three national highways in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta area. The work to the three routes is expected to cost $385 million and the roads are National Highway 53, National Highway 62 and National Highway 91B. Part of the funding for the upgrade work is coming from a loan worth $262 million, which is being provided by The World Bank. The improvement works will help boost connectivity in the Mekong Delta area.
