Work Detail SJVN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) to develop an 1800 MW Pumped Storage Project (PSP) at Kotpali in Chhattisgarh. This agreement is an important step towards strengthening India’s energy security and supporting the shift to clean and sustainable power sources. The MoU was signed by Shri Sushil Kumar Sharma, Director (Projects) at SJVN, Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, Government of Chhattisgarh, and Shri Sanjeev Kumar Katiyar, Managing Director of CSPGCL. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, and Shri Lakhan Lal Dewangan, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry. Senior officials from SJVN and the Government of Chhattisgarh also attended the event. The Kotpali PSP will be built in the Balrampur District of Chhattisgarh. It is an off-stream closed-loop pumped storage project with a planned installed capacity of 1800 MW. The project is expected to generate about 3967 million units of energy. Pumped storage projects like this one are crucial as they help store extra energy produced by renewable sources such as solar and wind. The stored energy can then be used when electricity demand is high, ensuring a steady and reliable power supply. The total investment for the Kotpali PSP is estimated at ?9,500 crore. The project is expected to create job opportunities for around 5,000 people during its construction and development phase. Both direct and indirect employment will be generated, giving a boost to the local economy. This new project will add to the renewable energy capacity of Chhattisgarh. It will help balance power supply and demand, making it easier to use renewable energy sources that can be unreliable at times due to weather conditions. The development of the Kotpali PSP is also expected to attract more investment to the region and contribute to the state’s overall economic growth. By signing this agreement, SJVN, the Government of Chhattisgarh, and CSPGCL are taking a big step towards promoting clean energy and improving energy storage solutions in India.
