The General Pueyrredón City Council approved the call for tenders for the concession of the José María Minella Stadium, the Islas Malvinas Sports Centre and the common areas of the Sports Park. The initiative, promoted by the municipal government, seeks to modernise and revalue the citys sports and cultural infrastructure through private investment. The concession process will last for 30 years, with the option of an extension for another 10 years. The tender is expected to have a national and international scope, granting additional advantages to proposals that include agreements with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) for the development of sports activities. The project is a response to the deterioration of the stadium and its surroundings, which has accumulated over the last few decades. According to the municipality, the approved tender is presented as a modern and agile instrument that seeks to attract the largest number of bidders. The concession will not only guarantee structural improvements and maintenance, but will also promote job creation and economic revitalization through a schedule of events that covers the entire year. Among the requirements for bidders is the presentation of a plan of shows and activities spread over the 12 months, in order to avoid exclusive concentration in the summer season. In this way, it is expected that the positive impact will reach sectors such as gastronomy, hotels and commerce, boosting tourism and employment in all seasons. The tender also establishes the obligation to incorporate cutting-edge technology and infrastructure in the minimum works required, ensuring compliance with current regulations. In addition, additional points will be awarded to proposals that add new sports spaces to the Municipal Sports Park. The mayor of General Pueyrredón highlighted that the modernization of these spaces will allow Mar del Plata to consolidate itself as a sports, cultural and economic center of reference, providing direct benefits to citizens and projecting the city towards sustainable growth. With a historical legacy that includes highly relevant sports events and concerts, the renovation of the Minella and the Islas Malvinas Sports Center is presented as a key opportunity to strengthen the infrastructure and enhance the offer of shows at a national and international level.
