Panama has seen sustained growth in the adoption of electric mobility since the introduction of electric vehicles in 2015. According to figures from the Association of Automobile Distributors of Panama (ADAP), 82 electric vehicles were sold in 2021; in 2022 the figure rose to 160; in 2023 it reached 440 units, and by October 2024, 773 electric cars were registered in the country. In total, 1,584 electric vehicles have been in circulation since 2015 until the end of January 2025, reflecting steady growth in electric mobility. Regarding public chargers, 256 units have been installed to date throughout the country and there are 195 stations, facilitating access to charging infrastructure. The energy transition in the passenger transport sector has several scenarios. Among them, for 2030 it was established that between 10% and 20% of private vehicles will be electric and that between 25% and 40% of total private car sales will also be of this technology. In the case of buses, the goal was set of between 15% and 35% of the fleets of authorized concessions being electric also by 2030 and between 25% and 50% of the fleet of public buses.
