Work Detail Watsons Philippines is accelerating its transition to renewable energy, with 95 stores and all distribution centers in Luzon and Visayas now operating on solar power. The retail giant plans to expand this initiative further by converting an additional 30 stores and one more distribution center to solar energy in 2025. Watsons’ solar energy program is part of its long-term strategy to reduce operational costs, minimize environmental impact, and support the country’s clean energy transition. “Our commitment to sustainability drives us to integrate renewable energy into our operations, transforming how we power our stores and distribution centers. With 95 stores and all distribution centers around the country now running on solar energy, we are not only reducing our environmental footprint but also setting a benchmark for sustainable retail practices. This is just the beginning, and we are excited to expand these initiatives to create a greener future,” said Sharon Decapia, Senior Assistant Vice President for PR, Marketing & Sustainability at Watsons. The company has already reported a notable reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption due to the shift to solar power. Watsons also incorporates energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting and inverter air-conditioning units across its retail network to further optimize energy use. In line with its sustainability vision, Watsons launched its Greener Store concept in San Pedro, Laguna. The model store features solar energy integration and eco-friendly fixtures, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable retail practices. Looking ahead, Watsons Philippines aims to enhance its sustainability initiatives beyond energy efficiency, exploring waste reduction programs, environmentally friendly packaging, and carbon offsetting strategies. By scaling up its solar energy adoption, Watsons Philippines continues to lead in sustainable retail, setting an industry benchmark for integrating renewable energy solutions into daily operations.
