Czechia’s rail infrastructure manager, Správa železnic (SZ) selected the consortium of Strabag, Eurovia and Porr for the modernisation of Nezamyslice – Kojetín rail section, the first section of the future 78 km Brno – Prerov HSR. The selected consortium submitted an offer of CZK 6.67 billion (EUR 267.3 million) and works will start in May. The project covers the modernisation of the Nezamyslice – Kojetín rail section and the construction of its double track to allow trains running at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The reconstructed section is 10 km long and thanks to the relocations, it will be slightly shorter, and a 744-meter-long Nemcice Tunnel will be built under the Kozlov hill. The project also involves the construction of eight new railway bridges, the longest of which, over the valley of the Žlebuvka stream, will measure 122 m. Based on the results of the acoustic study, three noise barriers will be also installed. Merovice nad Hanou and Nemcice nad Hanou are the two stops that will be built along the route, with the latter replacing the station of the same name and will also benefit from a bus terminal that will be built. Under the project, the original railway station in Nemcice nad Hanou will be demolished and replaced by a branch line. Both stops will offer convenient boarding of trains and barrier-free access to the platform and in addition to a clear orientation and information system, the stops will have parking spaces for cars and bicycle racks. Crossing from one track to another will be possible at a new branch located in the middle of the modernised section. Both existing crossings will be eliminated, in Nemcice thanks to the relocation of the track to a new location, and in Merovice it will be replaced by a new road bypass. The project also includes partial relocation of class III roads. Noise barriers of almost 2,900 meters long will be built in the villages along the line. The construction will also move the junction of the AC and DC power supply systems from Nezamyslice to Prerov and the ETCS signalling equipment and the GSM-R radio system will be installed on the line. Archaeological research and felling of trees in the area of ??the planned relocations are currently underway. The section is the important connection of South and Central Moravia regions and the project is expected to be completed at the end of 2028 when trains will be able to run at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The project documentation, as well as the installation of the signalling equipment and GSM-R, are co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the construction is also proposed for co-financing from the CEF. The Brno – Prerov HSR is part of the Prague – Brno – Ostrava high-speed corridor. The entire route of the current single-track railway will be double-tracked, level crossings along the line will be removed and the line will be modernised to allow trains to run at 200 km/h. the entire project covers the construction of 80 bridges and flyovers, six tunnels and 28 overpasses, as well as the reconstruction of nine stations. All the modernised stations will provide comprehensive barrier-free access. The island platforms will be connected to the train station buildings by underpasses and will now provide access for people with reduced mobility and orientation. New barrier-free platforms with a boarding edge height of 550 mm above the track will also be built at the stops, which will make it easier for passengers to board the trains. Modernisation and double tracking work on the future Brno – Prerov HSR is split into five sections: Brno – Blažovice (20 km): partial relocation will take place, Brno-Slatina station will be reconstructed and two new stops will be built; Blažovice – Vyškov (20 km): the existing section will be abolished, and a new double-track line and three tunnels will be constructed Vyškov – Nezamyslice (11 km): as the above section, this will be also abolished and a new double-track line and two tunnels will be constructed Nezamyslice – Kojetín (10 km); and Kojetín – Prerov (17 km): this section will be modernised and double-tracked and Vežky station will be eliminated and replaced by a new Bochor branch which is necessary to increase the capacity of the section. The Brno – Prerov railway line will be part of the first integrated section of the high-speed line from Brno to Ostrava – Svinov. It is estimated that the Brno – Prerov HSR will begin commercial operation within 10 years, following the commencement of construction works, marking a significant step towards providing Czechia with access to high-speed rail services. |
