The countrys main crop chains requested the prompt bidding for the dredging and beaconing of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, highlighting that its modernization is key to improving the competitiveness of the exporting agroindustry. In a statement, they stressed that Argentina is far from the main markets and that the reduction of logistics costs is essential to strengthen the sectors insertion in global trade. Sector entities maintain that the deepening of the waterway will allow for a reduction in maritime freight costs and guarantee greater efficiency in the transportation of agro-industrial production. In this regard, they requested the Government to resume the bidding process with transparency criteria, ensuring that the contracting is at the risk of the company and without contributions from the State. The document was signed by the presidents of the main associations in the sector: the Argentine Soybean Chain Association (ACSOJA), the Argentine Corn and Sorghum Association (MAIZAR), the Argentine Sunflower Association (ASAGIR) and the Argentine Wheat Association (ARGENTRIGO). In it, they propose that in the coming months work be done together with the users of the system to develop an attractive document for potential bidders, with the aim of obtaining the lowest possible toll rates. This request arises after the national Government revoked the call for tenders for the Hydroway and ordered the Legal Affairs Department to prepare a report that will be sent to the National Commission for the Defense of Competition. The decision was made official through the publication of resolution 7/2025 in the Official Gazette. The Executive had justified the measure because the only offer submitted was that of the company DEME, whose process was marked by complaints of lack of transparency and lawsuits. Days before the official decision, the company decided to withdraw its application, which led to the cancellation of the bidding process and the review of the conditions for a future call for tenders. |
