Work Detail |
After more than a decade without expansions in the Buenos Aires subway network, the City Government announced the start of construction of Line F, which will connect Plaza Italia with Barracas. This project, postponed since 2001, will have an estimated cost of more than one billion dollars and seeks to significantly improve mobility in the capital. The new line will run along important avenues such as Juan de Garay, Entre Ríos, Callao and Las Heras, facilitating the connection between different neighborhoods and relieving congestion on other subway lines. In addition, it is expected to pass under the Frondizi Highway at Constitución and Barracas, ensuring a strategic route for public transportation. The announcement marks a break in the infrastructure policy of recent years, in which no new section of subway had been put out to tender. In contrast to other large Latin American cities, such as Santiago de Chile, Mexico City or São Paulo, Buenos Aires had been left behind in the expansion of its underground transport network. Prior to this decision, the City had commissioned engineering studies to assess the feasibility of the project, but without any concrete progress in its execution. This delay was one of the main criticisms of the previous administration, which concluded without new tenders for the subway network. The construction of Line F represents a key advance for urban transport, improving connectivity between the citys centre and south. This project is expected to reduce travel times and provide an efficient alternative for thousands of passengers every day, strengthening the metropolitan infrastructure and responding to a historical demand from residents. |
