Christoffer Ek, Director for Decarbonization Services at Wärtsilä Energy, is set to participate in the Invest in African Energy (IAE) Forum 2025, scheduled for May 13-14 in Paris. Ek will bring his expertise in sustainable energy solutions and decarbonization technologies, highlighting Wärtsilä’s role in Africa’s energy transition. Wärtsilä Energy, a global leader in smart technologies for the power sector, has been actively driving the decarbonization of energy systems by integrating flexible power solutions and renewable energy technologies. The company’s strategy includes advancements in energy storage, hybrid power plants, and renewable energy sources to support the shift toward cleaner energy in Africa. Wärtsilä’s Growing Footprint in Africa The company has been instrumental in powering Africa’s industrial and mining sectors. In Senegal, Wärtsilä secured a contract in September 2024 to supply engines and auxiliary equipment for a 17 MW power plant at the Boto gold mine. It has also expanded operations and maintenance contracts for power plants in Zambia and Madagascar, while signing a new maintenance agreement for two power plants in Morocco. Additionally, in Nigeria, Wärtsilä secured a 10-year deal in May 2024 to operate and maintain a 50 MW captive power plant supporting a cement production facility in Kogi State. Focus on Africa’s Energy Transformation At IAE 2025, discussions will center on Wärtsilä’s contribution to Africa’s energy transformation, emphasizing cost-effective and scalable solutions to reduce carbon emissions. Ek’s participation will underscore Wärtsilä’s commitment to sustainable energy innovation, improving energy access, and fostering economic growth while ensuring environmental responsibility. |
