Work Detail According to the announcement made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the project will be carried out through the European Investment Bank (EIB). The Renewstable Barbados project proposes the integration of solar energy with long-term on-site storage of green hydrogen. It will replace a 13 MW fossil fuel power plant. The Renewable Barbados project, developed by the French company Hydrogène de France (HDF), will receive support from the European Investment Bank (EIB), according to the announcement made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, after visiting the island country, located in the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean Sea. According to von der Leyen, this is the first green hydrogen storage project in Barbados. Located at Harrow Plantation in St. Philip, Renewstable is designed to provide electricity on a permanent basis by integrating large-scale solar power with long-term on-site storage of green hydrogen. The project, which will feature a 50 MW solar generation facility with green hydrogen and lithium-ion battery storage, will replace a 13 MW fossil fuel-fired power plant. As already announced in 2022 , the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, are already participating, in addition to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Barbados has set a target of 100% renewable energy by 2030. In November last year, the first battery storage tender was announced , seeking to purchase 60 MW of battery energy storage systems.
