Latinoconsult is carrying out the project review and supervision of a key project in the Copo department, province of Santiago del Estero. This is the diversion dam on the Salado River, together with the intake works, a connecting canal, its connection to the Canal de Dios and various complementary works. The levelling weir , located near the town of Cruz Bajada, will raise the water level to ensure a flow of 18 m3/s towards the intake site of the Canal de Enlace. This 192-metre-long structure has a spillway made up of thirteen 12.3-metre spans and nine 2.7-metre flat gates, with electromechanical operation. 2,047 m3 of reinforced concrete will be used in its construction. To ensure fish migration, the weir will have a fish transfer structure. In addition, a DNV A-30 bridge will be built on the crest of the spillway to improve access. The work is complemented by soil-cement embankments on both banks, preventing overflows and protecting the surrounding properties. Intake and connection channel The intake system includes a rectangular sand trap area measuring 71 metres long by 33.6 metres wide, equipped with gates for cleaning. A 500-metre connection channel will then connect the intake to the distribution node, allowing the diversion of flows both to the Canal de Dios and to the future canal to Figueroa. Distribution node and Canal de Dios The distribution node, located at 500 m, will regulate flows by means of manual gates. The new connection channel with Canal de Dios, with a capacity of 3 m3/s, will be 21,865 metres long and will intersect with the current channel at the foot of the existing waterfall upstream of the diversion to the Virgen de Huachana channel. Road and energy infrastructure Given the impact of the work on the region, priority has been given to maintaining and improving Provincial Route No. 2, ensuring safe access to the facilities in all weather conditions. In addition, a 30 km medium voltage power line (13.2 kV three-phase) has been built, connecting the SETaN 33/13.2 in Ahí Veremos with the dam site. Progress of the works Currently, work is being done on concreting the intake and inlet works of the link canal and the new Canal de Dios. The latter has already been excavated up to 10,000 m, with 30% of its length lined.
