The Oscar and Juan Gálvez Racetrack in the City of Buenos Aires is undergoing a comprehensive renovation with the repaving of Circuit 6, used by Formula 1 between 1995 and 1998. The work, which implies a pause in sporting activity until August, is part of the modernization plan for the site, which has been managed since 2018 by a Banco Ciudad trust. The work in progress includes the laying of new state-of-the-art asphalt, adjusted to the standards of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). In addition to the repaving of the 4,259-metre track, safety will be improved with new pianos, beds of leca and the addition of 300 tyre guards. The guardrails will also be reinforced and the drainage system will be redesigned. Other key improvements include the repaving of the internal and external pit lanes, as well as the extension of the protection areas in critical sectors such as the “S” of the Ciervo and the Curvón Salotto. These changes aim to raise the level of the circuit and allow for FIA Grade 2 or 3 homologation, which would open up the possibility of hosting international competitions such as the WTCR Tour and the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). The financing of the project, estimated at 800 million pesos, will be covered by a sponsoring partner whose name has not been revealed. Currently, there are about 30 workers and a dozen machines working on the premises in different areas of the circuit. In addition to these reforms, in recent years various improvements have been made to the racetrack, such as the construction of a motocross track, the opening of a helipad and the remodelling of the cafeteria. All of this aims to revitalise a historic venue for Argentine motor racing, which will once again welcome Turismo Carretera on 20 August after a two-year absence.
