Work Detail The General Department of Irrigation opened the envelopes for the bidding for the Modernization of the Calise Canal Irrigation System, a key project for the Upper Tunuyán River Basin, in the department of San Carlos. With an official investment of $5,793,800,000, the execution of this project will require a period of 18 months and will be financed with Compensation Funds. Project Features The project involves the construction of a reservoir and the lining of 19 kilometers of canals and ditches. Currently, the Calise Canal Irrigation System begins at the Valle de Uco dam under the name of Canal Consulta and crosses the San Carlos stream by means of a canal bridge. From there, the Calise Canal extends unlined for 2,800 meters to a subdivision, where three ditches with lengths of between 4 and 5 kilometers branch off. Due to the characteristics of the terrain and the low slopes, high infiltration losses occur, which generates high operating and maintenance costs. To mitigate these problems, the work will include: Intervention in the Calise Matriz canal, with the incorporation of a sand trap, a flow meter, a sewer and a divider with connection to the reservoir. Construction of a reservoir with capacity to store 40,000 m³ of water. Waterproofing of three trenches, totaling 19 kilometers of reinforced concrete coating. Installation of flow measurement sections in each branch to improve irrigation flow control. The project will have a direct impact on the optimization of the irrigation system, benefiting 725.6 productive hectares in the Uco Valley area. Offering companies Four companies presented their economic proposals to carry out the work: Marcalba SA LM Pagliara SA Sanco SA Stornini SA Benefits of modernization The waterproofing and improvement of the system will allow for a more efficient distribution of water, reducing losses and operating costs, which will benefit agricultural producers in the region. This work is part of the initiatives to optimize Mendozas water infrastructure, ensuring better management of the resource in the Uco Valley.
