Work Detail A new study by the consultancy firm Greener indicates that this represents an increase of 29% compared to the previous year. In the past year, demand for components for energy storage systems (BEES) in Brazil has grown by 89% compared to 2023, and a large part of these systems is expected to be installed by 2025. The consumer battery storage market is estimated to generate more than R$22.5 billion in investments through 2030. The indicators are part of the new Energy Storage Strategic Study, prepared by Greener. The consultancys survey shows that, by 2024, the country has accumulated 685 MWh of installed capacity, with 70% of storage serving isolated systems. Last year alone, 269 MWh were added, which represents an increase of 29% compared to 2023. The study also found that reliability is the main motivation for installing storage systems in Brazil, given that frequent power outages and prolonged interruptions in electricity supply cause significant losses. On the global stage, the battery energy storage market is expected to exceed 760 GW of installed capacity by 2030, led by China and the United States, especially in utility applications. The Asian country also leads behind-the-meter applications, along with Germany and Italy. Latin America and the Pacific, despite increasing investment, still face regulatory barriers and high capital costs that make more robust growth unviable. “The storage market is a key element in Brazil’s energy transition, allowing the integration of renewable sources into the electricity matrix and enabling greater system stability. As an opportunity to mitigate challenges such as curtailment and reverse flow, this is a market that continues to advance, driven by increasing demand and more competitive prices. We will also have the Storage Capacity Reserve Auction, scheduled for this year, which should open the door to new investments in large-scale projects in the country,” says Marcio Takata, CEO of Greener.
