Motorists in Koronadal, South Cotabato can now enjoy improved visibility and safer journey with the new solar-powered lights and center islands constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along Marbel-Makar Road. DPWH Region 12 Director Basir M. Ibrahim, in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, said that a total of 215 double arm solar LED roadway light posts were installed along the 6.7-lane kilometer section of Marbel-Makar Road to enhance both road safety and security. In addition to the lights, concrete traffic islands have been constructed to separate lanes, provide safer pedestrian crossings, and reduce the risks of sudden overtaking or counterflows. “These improvements are crucial in ensuring the safety of both motorists and pedestrians, especially during nighttime, by minimizing the likelihood of accidents and collisions,” said Director Ibrahim. The project supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to enhancing road safety across the country. Costing a total of ?107.11-million, the project was implemented by DPWH Regional Office 12, with funding sourced from the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA). |
